Piano Men Benefit Concert
- January 4, 2019
“Piano Men – The Music of Elton and Billy” is a tribute to the amazing songs of Billy Joel and Elton John. This chamber concert combines a five piece rock band, featuring Joe Boucher on piano and vocals, with a classical string quartet.
Joe, a Pond Cove parent, has graciously donated his talents to bring the Cape Elizabeth Community this remarkable night with all proceeds going to the Pond Cove Playground fundraising campaign,
The music of “Piano Men” concentrates heavily on the recordings of Elton and Billy during their 70s heyday – when their many hit albums featured lush orchestrations. The concert opens with Billy Joel’s thrilling “Prelude / Angry Young Man” and works its way through a veritable hit parade, alternating songs between the two composers. Songs in the first set include “Your Song”, “My Life “Tiny Dancer, “Sorry Seems to be the Hardest Word,” “Movin’ Out (Anthony’s Song) and “Scenes from an Italian Restaurant”. Act Two continues with “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road”, “Pressure”, “Rocket Man”, “New York State of Mind”, “Levon”, “Only the Good Die Young”, and “Crocodile Rock”. The Encore is Elton John’s poignant “Candle in the Wind” followed by the anthem of the evening, Billy Joel’s “Piano Man” which the audience joins and sings on their way home.”
The performance takes place on January 24 at 7:00pm. Doors will open at 6:00pm.
